Imagine the scene: ancient tombs, often in bloom, blending into the landscape, with an unrivalled panorama of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the magnificent Baie des Canebiers as a backdrop. It’s a view that invites serenity! Coveringan area of approximately 11,150m²1, the site is a place of meditation, but also a tourist attraction prized for its beauty and calm…

History etched in stone

The history of Saint-Tropez’s marine cemetery dates back to the late 18th century. It was first relocated in 1776 to the Pré des Pêcheurs, before finding its current site in 1815. Over the years, this place of remembrance has undergone several extensions, most recently in 1980, with the addition of a crypt. Each extension tells a different part of the story of Saint-Tropez and its inhabitants.

A stroll down memory lane

Take a stroll through the alleys and you’ll discover different parts of the cemetery. The entrance section is charming. The most recent extensions house most of the celebrities. Here you can see the graves of :

  • Pierre Bachelet, the famous singer
  • Eddie Barclay, easily recognizable with his six large black vinyl records affixed to his white stone, a nod to his life as a producer and “king of Tropezian nights”!
  • Roger Vadim, the filmmaker
  • Brigitte Bardot’s parents, Louis Bardot and Anne-Marie Muce
  • the painter André Dunoyer de Segonzac

The presence of these celebrities transforms the Saint-Tropez marine cemetery into a kind of open-air museum, a veritable cultural tapestry that tells part of the story of Saint-Tropez’s celebrities.
